Playing outdoors in nature is a favorite activity for children of all ages, not to mention it’s also a very healthy pastime. If you want to instill a love of nature in your child, you can do that by making nature part of your home and bringing the great outdoors inside your kid’s room.

Being able to play outside, run, explore and have fun with other children their age is every kid’s dream. Jumping in puddles after the rain, spending the day at the pool, discovering nature’s wonders, or going on scavenger hunts are just some of the outdoor activities children absolutely adore.

It’s also a well-known fact that playing outdoors helps children grow healthy and strong. Studies have shown that outdoor play improves kids’ motor skills, ensures that they get enough sunlight, helps with brain development, encourages them to learn new words and concepts, increases openness and self-awareness, and improves their overall health.

It’s therefore extremely important for all kids to get their fair share of outdoor time, whether that means letting them play outside as often as possible or choosing a day camp for your kid where he can enjoy the great outdoors. However, no matter how much they love running around the playground, they can’t spend the entire day outside. So, when it’s time to head back home, or when the weather is not suitable for open-air explorations, you can encourage your kid’s love of nature and adventure by bringing the outdoors indoors.

Let the light in

Kids need sunlight to thrive and develop healthily. It would be great if you could take your kid to one of the day camps in Queens, so he can engage in outdoor activities and soak up the sun. However, that’s not always possible and your kid needs sunlight exposure regularly, not only when you have the time to take them to the day camp.

So, when going out is not an option, how can your kid catch some sun rays? It’s simple – by ensuring his room gets plenty of natural sunlight. This obviously means choosing the room in your house with the greatest sunlight exposure for your kid. But even if the room doesn’t face an optimal direction, there are still a few things you could do to maximize sunlight. Depending on your budget, you can either install a larger window in your kid’s room or add a few skylights in the ceiling. Any of these options would work just fine, as long as you have the resources and willingness to take on a remodel project

Bring in the greenery

Plants are one of nature’s most wonderful miracles, and one of the greatest things about them is that you can also bring them inside. So, what better way to bring nature closer to your kid than by turning his room into a green oasis? A few fresh green plants are more than enough to create a nature-inspired ambiance. Besides, they also help improve the air quality in the room, so they can serve as wellness boosters.

If you don’t know what plants to choose, we recommend going for indoor plants that require little maintenance, especially if you’re not exactly a green thumb. This might be a great opportunity to improve your gardening skills and teach your child about plants and how to care for them.

Add elements and materials from nature

If you’ve decided to let nature inside your home, why stop at plants? There are many other elements that can help you create a natural décor in your kid’s room. And the best thing about it is they’re also very affordable, so you don’t have to make a huge investment to achieve great results.

You can collect pinecones from the forest, seashells, or rocks and put them in a bowl or use them to make fun DIY decorating projects with your kid. Not only will you have a great time doing things together, but it will also support your child’s connection with nature.

Sleeping under the starry sky

If stargazing is among your kid’s favorite activities, how about recreating the magic of the night’s sky in his room? This calls for a bit of creativity and some DIY skills, but we’re sure you can pull it off.

All you need is a set of glow-in-the-dark stars and some glue. You’ll have to glue each star on the ceiling to create a shimmering galaxy that will glow at night when your kid is sleeping. If you want to take things one step further, you can also build a solar system and hang it from the ceiling. Having a starry sky in their bedroom is a great décor idea for children who are afraid of the dark as it will guarantee a peaceful and restful sleep.

Going on a camping adventure

Children can learn a lot about nature by attending Brooklyn camps, but they can also learn a lot about the great outdoors at home. If you want to introduce your kid to camping or if your little one is already passionate about camping, you can help them enjoy this experience at home.

With a little bit of imagination, you can transform your child’s room into a camper’s dream. A tree wallpaper can turn into a magical forest and a kid’s camping tent can become the centerpiece of the décor. Add a few other accessories, such as maps, binoculars, and other equipment that a true adventurer might need, and you’re all set. Think of all the wonderful adventures your kid will bring to life in such an enchanting setting.

These are just a few tips that will help you bring nature closer to your home and your kid’s heart, but feel free to use your imagination and creativity and improvise as much as you want. We’re sure you can come up with even more interesting ideas for your child’s room.
