Allow Heat Exchange

Most people living in extremely cold environments use a home heating system with radiators. If your household has a similar water heating system, make sure to move stuff away from the radiators. For example, if you have a couch or a table right in front of the radiator, consider moving it away. Doing this allows better heat dissipation and helps to better maintain the temperature. Home insulation experts even suggest removing the curtains if the radiator is located below a window.

Preventing Winter Drafts

Even the smallest of drafts can be most uncomfortable and can cause indoor temperatures to drop quickly. Chipped window edges and spaces underneath the doors and windowpanes are some common areas you could expect winter drafts. You don’t need to hire a professional to help you with eliminating drafts. Placing a simple piece of cloth underneath doors or applying tape around window panes would suffice to keep the household warm.

Room Heaters

Installing room heaters is a cost-effective way to maintain warm indoor temperatures. You can choose from a variety of heaters that include fan space heaters, and infrared heaters, or choose a wall-mounted heater if you have a small living space. Either way, considering to choose a heater will warm up the indoors while cutting down on power consumption.

Closing Doors

Heat pockets can be created by closing doors that do not need to remain open. This will allow warm air to get trapped in rooms and creates pockets of hot air in the rooms you are using. Naturally, the rooms you are using will become warmer than the rest. One thing to remember is to always turn off any radiators or heating systems in any room you are not using to ensure no energy is wasted.

Using Curtains

Insulation gurus recommend using curtains appropriately during the winters. During the cold season, you can open curtains to let natural light in but as the sun sets, consider closing the curtains to retain heat in the home. Double layer curtains work best during the winters so make sure to add curtains to your purchase list before the winter season starts.

Use Carpets or Rugs

Uninsulated floors can become a nightmare during cold weather. To prepare for the cold weather, carpets or rugs can be placed on freezing floors to minimize contact with the bare surface. However, if you want to keep the floor tiles visible and your home warm, consider installing a floor insulation system. The type of insulation will depend solely on your requirements and the budget.
