With the current events, it became extremely hard to plan an indoor party – but that shouldn’t stop you from partying! It’s actually more beneficial and fun to throw an awesome outdoor party, especially if you have a backyard. Like with any other event, it’s a good idea to start with a list of things you want to do, in order to prepare accordingly! So here are some ideas where you can start!

1. Pick a theme

Picking a theme of the party is a must before anything else, even if you are having a small get together, why not make it a little more special? A costume party in the middle of summer? A 20s themed birthday party? Why not! The sky’s the limit with this, especially since you are making it outside – this can open a lot of doors. How about a DIY party where you get to paint a large canvas together – you don’t have to worry about getting anything dirty since you’ll be outside! So it all depends on your guests and the nature of the party – but try to strive towards something fun and refreshing. Give your guests something to remember and have some fun in the meantime!

2. Get the right kind of furniture

This might be the hardest thing to do, especially if you’ll have a lot of guests but not many chairs! So it’s important to introduce a different kind of seating option, so everyone can enjoy whatever they like – now, instead of buying the furniture, you can just get a few blankets and use them as a cozy seating area all over the backyard! This can also be tied with the theme of the party – it’s not about spending a lot of money, but more so finding cheap, yet useful alternatives!

3. Cook the food on the spot

There is something special about cooking with friends and loved ones, so having a cookout in your backyard is the perfect activity! All you need is a list of ingredients and a good grill! There are plenty of smokers to choose from, even if you don’t own one yet, you’ll certainly use it in the future as well so it’s a good investment. This way you can cook food on the spot and have it fresh and ready for your guests – just don’t forget to ask everyone what kind of foods they would like to eat and have plenty of options!

4. Decoration is key

You can completely transform any kind of space with the right kind of decor! Depending on the nature of the event, you’ll have to decide on the type of decor – for an intimate get-together fairy lights and candles are a great way to decorate the backyard – and if you are making a fun birthday party, getting neon lights is a must – but you can use pretty much anything you already have in your home! Also, it’s smart to add some kind of bug repellent, but this doesn’t have to be anything obvious, as there are lots of fancy-looking bug repellents that no guest would bat an eye on.

5. Diversify the drinks

Depending on what kind of party you are planning, if it’s a baby shower, a birthday, or something casual – you shouldn’t focus on having only alcohol! There are many interesting ideas for cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks, so this way you can satisfy everyone’s taste! Try googling fun drinks, most of which you can make yourself – and don’t forget to buy some fun glasses for different kinds of drinks, as plastic cups are just tacky and not aesthetically pleasing!

6. Don’t forget about the music

Music can be a game-changer for every party – but it’s important to find the perfect playlist. If it’s a bigger event, and a special one above all else, live music is always the best choice for this, especially something acoustic. If you have talented friends and loved ones who can sing and play instruments you can ask them for help – or you can find a local band and hire them for the night. Blasting music through your speakers might also come with a bit of consequences such as noise complaints from your neighbors. You alternatively use silent disco headphones to keep the music and the party going without disturbing the next-door neighbors. On the flip chance that this is just a Saturday get-together, adding a few speakers around the backyard and playing music is totally enough!

At the end of the day, the budget and venue will determine a lot of things, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have a lot of options to choose from. Throwing an outdoor party is fun and you can do basically anything and make it a sophisticated yet chill evening! With a little bit of planning and preparation, you can’t go wrong and all of your guests will be amazed by your planning skills!
