As you get older, your body will become more rigid, and you won’t be able to move around as freely. A lot of older people have to move into bungalows because they are unable to climb up the stairs in their homes anymore. However, if you are getting old and don’t want to leave your home, but struggle to get upstairs, then you do have an option: A stairlift.

The introduction of a stairlift to your home is a highly effective way of ensuring that you are still able to move around your house freely, without anybody else’s help or support.

This post will tell you about nine amazing benefits of installing a stairlift.

Prevents Injuries

One of the main benefits of installing a stairlift is that it can protect the elderly (and the disabled) from injuries. Climbing up the stairs can be very challenging for some people—one wrong move can lead to falls and serious injuries. The installation of a stair lift prevents injuries from occurring on the stairs. If you have a loved one who is having trouble getting up and down the stairs, then installing one of these devices will be a highly effective way of making their life much easier (and much less dangerous).

Easy to Use

Stairlifts are very easy to operate. No matter how old your loved one is, they will have no trouble operating theirs. All that a person needs to do when they have sat down on their stairlift and fastened themselves in is to press a button. Then, as soon as they reach the top (or bottom) of the stairs, the device will automatically stop, and they can get out. Stairlifts come with instruction manuals, so be sure to go through your loved one’s manual with them, just so you are sure they understand how their stairlift works.

More Freedom

Stairlifts mean that elderly people and the disabled have more freedom. When a person wants to get upstairs, they don’t want to have to call for another person’s help. This is especially true if they want to go to the bathroom or just want some time to themselves. A stairlift means that your loved one can get around their home without needing another person’s help. Giving your loved one more freedom in their home will help them to enjoy their life, despite their age or disability.

Comfortable

Stairlifts are very comfortable. Most come with cushions and specially designed back supports. If your loved one is elderly, then it is important to find the most comfortable stair lift that you can. Buying them one that’s not comfortable could make their injuries even worse. Take some time to visit the dealer’s showroom before buying a stairlift, so you can get your loved one to test the one you are considering buying out first. Testing it out first will help them to figure out whether it’s the right one for them.

Very Affordable

Things are very expensive at the moment. Many people, old and young, are struggling to buy food and heat their homes. Because of this, the thought of buying a stairlift is probably a little daunting. However, you don’t need to worry,  because stairlifts are very affordable. In addition to being very affordable, most retailers offer payment plans and finance. If you are on a budget, then getting finance will mean that you are able to save money and break down the cost of your payments into more affordable monthly installments. Bear in mind if you get finance, interest will be added.

Short-term Solution

If you have been injured (or if your loved one has been injured) then you can install a stairlift and use it as a short-term solution. These devices do not have to be used all of the time. However, if you are going to have one installed temporarily, then consider keeping it even after your injuries resolve. It is possible to rent stairlifts, but buying one means that you will be protected in the future, in case of further injuries, or in case of old age. Because of how affordable and easily installed stairlifts are, they make for great short-term solutions.

Keep Independence

When a person gets old, one of the hardest things they have to do is to sacrifice their independence. Nobody wants to stop being independent. After spending one’s entire life looking after oneself, then having to rely on other people for one’s care can be immensely difficult. By installing a stairlift, you will be able to ensure that your loved one keeps their independence. While it is true that they may still need you to come in every so often and look after them, giving them a stairlift means that they can at least get around their house freely, without needing another person’s support.

Long Warranties

Most stairlifts come with very long warranties, i.e., two years or more. If you are planning on buying one then it is a very good idea to find one with the longest warranty that you can. The longer your stairlift’s warranty is, the more protected you will be in case of future breakage. You should be aware though, warranties only kick in when the stairlift breaks down because of mechanical failures, not because you have broken it. If you break your stairlift yourself, then you won’t really have any legal protection or right to a new one.

Try First

Another fantastic thing about stairlifts is that most distributors are happy to let customers try them before they buy them. In other words, you can try a stairlift in your home for a few weeks, before committing to buy. Some retailers also offer an arrangement whereby people try the stairlift out at home for a month or so, they are able to get a full refund and have the stairlift removed if they don’t like it. Try to find a retailer that offers such a plan.

Stairlifts are devices used to help the elderly, disabled, or immobile to get up and down the stairs. They are very affordable and easy to install. If you or a loved one is having mobility issues, then consider investing in one.
